Who says it is easy to own this little super-sport machine. According to friends, the first service of the Yamaha R15 at the 1000km mark can set you back by close to Rs 1500! During the first service, you are required to change not only the engine oil but parts like the various filters including the oil filter. This is ok but what surprises me is that most workshops pester the owners to go in for the semi-synthetic oil for the engine, which in itself costs a bomb! Phew...

What are you: a moron?!!! While the R15 may seem like a 'small 150' bike, it infact incorporates almost all the important technologies found in the R6 and R1. After the initial runin period not only the oil but the oil filter need to be changed as there are metal filings from the runin process captured by the oil filter. Infact many tunners are of the view that the oil and oil filter should be changed twice; first time immediately after the first run of the bike and the second time after the recommeded runin distance.
As far as semi synthetic oil is concerned; if the engine is designed for high performance, then an oil specifically designed for such an engine enhances the engine life. The choice is yours; either you educate yourself or keep craping about how expensive it is.
